Cat. #0017312233: THOMAS MITCHELL

Rare vintage inscribed blue indelible pencil signature on a 4x6-inch orange album page, acquired in-person in the 1930s by an autograph hound named Marilyn. Character actor John Qualen signs below and his signature can easily be separated with trimming. In good condition. One of the most recognizable character actors of Hollywood's Golden Age, Thomas Mitchell was a well-established theater star by the time he was hand-selected by Frank Capra to play embezzling banker Henry Barnard in Lost Horizon (1937). His legendary body of work also included the tearjerker Make Way for Tomorrow (1937); John Ford's The Hurricane (1937), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award; Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939); the horror flick The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939); Gone with the Wind (1939), in which he played Scarlett's father; the western Stagecoach (1939), for which he snagged an Oscar; Swiss Family Robinson (1940); Our Town (1940); The Devil and Daniel Webster (1941); This Above All (1942); Tales of Manhattan (1942); The Outlaw (1943); Flesh and Fantasy (1944); The Keys of the Kingdom (1944); Capra's It's a Wonderful Life (1946), in the key role of absentminded Uncle Billy; and High Noon (1952).
